Ireland’s leading cloud telecoms company Magnet Networks is set to partner with The Race for the third running of the event to be held in Donegal, Ireland in March 2016. The announcement is a boost for ultra-endurance racing in Ireland and will go a long way towards establishing The Race as one of the world’s premier endurance events.
Commenting on the partnership, Mark Kellet, CEO of Magnet Networks says, “Magnet is delighted to partner with The Race to support a great fundraising event for a very worthy cause and one of the worlds’ toughest endurance races. It’s a real test of human endurance and mental strength for elite racers from around the world”
The Race is a self-supported endurance event designed to stand toe to toe with the toughest events on the planet. The event pits competitors against a 250 km course taking them across Ireland’s most rugged, remote and challenging terrain. Competitors must run, cycle, paddle and scramble their way along a course that’s difficulty is matched only by its’ beauty. Crucially, all of the above must be completed in just 24 hours.
By participating in The Race competitors support the work of our charity partner Gorta Self-Help Africa while undertaking a challenge that for many is life changing. In the words of Arthur McMahon a finisher in 2014 “I'm a changed man. Few really believed this could be done. Maybe I didn't really believe either. Getting to the finish line took my whole family. Now nothing is impossible!”
As well as being Magnet’s CEO, Mark Kellett is also taking on the event himself for the second time in 2016. On his involvement as a competitor Mark commented.
“It’s often said in sport that they only way to better yourself is to surround yourself with people who are better than you and this is also very true in business. To win you need to learn to compete, to push the boundaries, to gain new skills and ultimately pit yourself against the best in the world…..and not be afraid to fail and learn from that failure to come back as a stronger competitor.
Last year I had to withdraw about 150km’s into the race through injury and so failed to complete the course, but I learned a lot through that failure and so this year, learning from my mistakes, I am again taking on the event and the all that the weather will throw at us to complete this epic challenge”.
Commenting on the partnership, director of The Race, David Burns says,
“We have been looking for a partnership with a company who's values are close to our own. In Magnet we feel we have found a company with a similar vision and we look forward to working closely in our efforts to build The Race into one of the toughest and highest quality endurance events in the world.”
