Background (Reasons for attempting The Race)

I’m 46 years young, a scientist and an engineer. I’m mad about sport and setting tough challenges to improve my physical and mental strength. Swimming and GAA dominated my earlier youth with running and cycling taking root in my 30's. I have completed a number of triathlon and ironman events in Ireland over the last 5 years. The first triathlon came about as a result of a dinner table bet! I won and from there I've continued to compete when possible. My goal is to finish The Race and raise money for Focus Ireland and Azheimers Ireland to honour my father and then complete an Ironman in Austria/Germany and Italy next year.
