Background
I work as a Production Supervisor for Teleflex Medical, a medical device company in Limerick. I live in Nenagh, Co. Tipperary. My sporting background in my early days was all team based sports - basketball, hurling and football. When I turned 28 I began to get 'the itch', some might call it an early mid life crisis, but I started to feel a need to challenge myself more and to achieve something in my life. It started fairly predictably with a marathon, and then progressed to ultra-marathons and adventure races. Somewhere between the Art O'Neill Challenge and various adventure races I fell in love with being completely immersed and surrounded in nature, away from what we call civilisation, off the beaten track and relying on your own strength and determination to reach your goal. There are two other factors that have driven me to seek out challenges in my life - one is that I want to set an example for my kids in the future that if they work hard they can achieve anything.... and the other factor is my friend Brian Meskell, who has also entered The Race. He has a habit of presenting me with crazy events and I have a habit of not being able to say no! This is another fine mess he's gotten me into!
