Background (Reasons for attempting The Race)

I played Rugby until I was 36 and then spent 8 years on the sofa.  My friend was putting together the Coastal Cancer Challenge in Dunfanaghy in 2012 and he talked me into doing it.  I trained for 10 weeks and when I got across the line I knew I could go faster.  As it turned out I was wrong but I did find I could go longer.  It was on the start line of the 2013 Gaelforce North that I first heard about a 24hour multisport race.  I thought it was nuts but Gavin Harris and Gerard Callaghan convinced me I could do it.  You two have a lot to answer for!

I've done The Race twice before. I finished it in 2014 but had to pull out after 12.5hrs in 2015.  I was gutted.  I think as a result of the disappointment of that I pulled together a 4 man team for the Race Around Ireland (RAI) 2015 and we placed 3rd in class in that.  Of course all of this is just training for the main event which is WAAR (The Wild Atlantic Adventure Race) in May in The Rosses in West Donegal this year.
